Simone Basani is an artist, curator, and art producer. Alice Ciresola is an independent researcher and curator. They develop participatory projects, and site-specific art formats, researching the boundaries between public and institutional spaces. In particular, they focus on the role of neglected voices in collective processes of historical forgetting and remembrance. They question what material and immaterial heritage means and to who it might belong.

Jeanne. Or the Western Touch is a performative art collection initiated by Simone Basani and Alice Ciresola that mainly explores European white desires to meet the Other and the Unknown but also to control, own, and exoticize them. Jeanne is inspired by the controversial relationship collector and dealer Jeanne Walschot established with her collection of African artifacts. A growing number of interdisciplinary artists (Maïte Álvarez (FR/ES/BE), Roger Fähndrich (CH/BE), Lilia Mestre (PT/BE) ) is commissioned to create a work for Jeanne's collection to tackle the power and the meaning of the Western touch in processes of exoticization, appropriation, seduction, submission, abuse...
