Myriam Van Imschoot, HYOID, WALPURGIS (BE)
Myriam Van Imschoot lives and works in Brussels and makes performances, creates sound poetry and vocal pieces, exhibits video and sound installations. She holds a unique position in the Belgian art field, moving between institutional fields and media, with a keen interest to experiment with contexts when not creating her own.
HYOID is a Brussels-based group of classically trained vocal soloists specialized in new music and transdisciplinary performance. The group strives to challenge and expand traditional concert formats, while cultivating close partnerships with composers, performers and artists of its generation. They perform a cappella as well as with instruments, tape or electronics, and adapt their line-up to each production.
WALPURGIS is a dynamic and polyphonic company of singers, actors, musicians and other artists. The integral working is a mirror of the society they dream of: generous, sustainable, continously moving and unafraid of contradictions and extremes.
Myriam Van Imschoot, HYOID, WALPURGIS (BE): newpolyphonies rewired
In newpolyphonies, the 4 singers of HYOID will be on stage with 15 local participants in a strange high mass about the small difference with a big impact. Manyfold, meditative, monstrous, machinic, Messianic, muted, mimetic, minuscule, methodical, mighty, momentary, mystical. Inspired by insects, climate protests and air traffic coming to a halt, the leitmotif in this concert/performance isn't the loud chanting of the masses, but the experience that every individual - like a link in a chain - can move a vortex of sounds.
With newpolyphonies rewired, Myriam Van Imschoot, HYOID and WALPURGIS explore from that same inspiration the possibilities of a sound installation. The work will premiere at Almost Summer festival 5th June 2021.
