The platform Chto delat / What is to be done? was founded in early 2003 in St. Petersburg by a group of artists, critics, philosophers and writers from Petersburg, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod with the goal of merging political theory, art and activism. It is a project that is aimed at creating and developing a dialogue of different positions on the politicization of knowledge production and the place of art and poetics in this process. The platform’s activity aims at triggering collective initiatives that could serve as a prototypical social model, capable of formulating and realizing its goals independently and taking on the function of an alternative power, an open system for interaction with society at large.
The participants of Chto delat engage in a variety of art projects, including video works, installations, public actions, radio programs and artistic examinations of social and political space.

It’s this kind of pubic actions they’re coming to Kortrijk for. The annual event Kortrijk Congé asked them to develop a concept to think collectively with as many people as possible and from different backgrounds about a common future. They proposed a series of free workshops (movement, constructing installations, costumes, tekst, music and sound) that create content and form a ‘parade for the future’ on the 11th of July.
Kortrijk Congé continues to evolve from ‘a festival to watch different proposals’ to ‘a project to co-create’, as it did in 2013 with the ‘traffic jam-edition’ (watch: https://vimeo.com/70395469) and in 2014 with the ‘city in state of exception’ (watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t74t2Yhkrcw).
