A procession all dressed in white crosses the city center, wearing signs without slogans. Ideas flow, demands take shape. This performance created by Anna Halprin in San Francisco in 1967 in response to the Vietnam war and the social unrest gripping the country, is revisited by Anne Collod in 2017. Carrying all kinds of white, blank signs and marching through the streets of the city, while passers-by ask the performers “What are you protesting against?” the dancers return the question: “What do you want to protest against?”
This participatory performance explores the political dimension of performance and its application in the urban space, at the crossroads of activist art and street theatre. How is this performance relevant to us today? Which issues does it still transmit?
